An image consists of many small details modern woman. Some of them only emphasize the style and individuality of their owner, while others, on the contrary, are capable of radically changing the mood and style of the image. These include a collar, which, depending on the model and type of clothing, can perform not only a decorative function, but also protect from wind and cold.

Collars come in different types: standing, standing-down and flat. Today we will talk about one of the classic collar models, and in particular about the apache collar, which is widely used in various types of clothing.

Apache or “hooligan”: an excursion into history

Down with conventions and etiquette regulations - the apache collar owes its appearance to the French, who deliberately unbuttoned the top buttons of their shirts, thereby demonstrating their disdain for the established rules. Of course, such a bold and extraordinary decision was perceived ambiguously by the public: the most ardent admirers of conventions were outraged by the careless, by those standards, appearance, but, nevertheless, many liked such an original idea. Having stood the test of time, today the apache collar is firmly established in the wardrobes of men and women and is used as a stylish addition to dresses, blouses, shirts, coats, raincoats and even fur coats.

Clothes with apache collar

A business suit or sports uniform, a romantic blouse or a classic shirt, an evening dress or a coat - any clothing looks great with an apache collar.

For example, a shirt with an apache collar is an ideal solution for brave ladies with a bright appearance and a decisive character. Suitable for creating an image, both in and everyday. At the same time, jewelry will help you set the right accents: when going to an official meeting, you can complete the composition with a beautiful gold chain or pearl thread, and bright jewelry will become the highlight of your everyday ensemble.

In addition, today you can purchase a removable apache collar, which will instantly transform a simple dress or blouse. There are crocheted models, decorated with beads, rhinestones, embroidery, appliqués; various color schemes are possible. So, by choosing a white openwork collar, you can add some discreet elegance to your outfit, while a polka dot or checkered collar will complete the look in a retro style.

Coats and raincoats with apache collars are very popular among the fair half. Such models look incredibly feminine and elegant. Moreover, they are suitable for women with completely different constitutions.

Don't underestimate a collar; if you choose it correctly, it can do real miracles - visually lengthen or widen your face, adjust your shoulder line and change your silhouette. Therefore, when buying blouses and jackets, it is worth knowing which models best suit your figure and type of appearance.

How did the apache collar come about?

Apache is a wide open collar. The fashion for it came to us from France, where shirts of such models were worn by hooligans expressing protest against the official business style, ties and other conventions. Such clothing was a kind of protest against strict social norms and authority.

The so-called Hawaiian shirt with a wide neck, sewn from cotton or silk fabric of different colors, appeared in fashion at the beginning of the twentieth century, but after a while it became less relevant. How has fashion changed over the years, and what are the rules for choosing a clothing style with an apache collar?

Fashion comes and goes, but certain accents are almost always on trend. After the twenties, apache collars lost their former enormous popularity. However, the fashion for them is still in force. They can be present as an element of clothing for men and women.

Such cuts are used in the design of various items of women's and men's wardrobe, it can be a shirt, blouse, knitted sweater, jacket, dress, jacket and coat.

There are three versions of jacket-type collars:

  • an open (English) collar is the most common; its lapel has a notch with a right angle;
  • a collar with closed lapels, also called a shawl - the lapels are rounded along the entire length, are often stitched with velvet or satin, are often used in tuxedos and look best with a bow tie;
  • The apache collar is a turn-down version with no buttons, it is wide enough and is suitable for free-style styling and informal events.

Shawl collars and apache collars differ in the height of the neckline and the roundness of their shapes.

The shawl is associated primarily with tuxedos; it is full of light elegance and harmonizes perfectly with both male and female silhouettes.

The shawl collar, thanks to its longitudinal vertical lines, makes the figure slimmer, visually lengthens the silhouette and is perfect for short people.

Shirts with an apache collar open up the chest more, visually expanding it. They should not be worn by girls with broad shoulders.

They look great on tall women without taking away extra centimeters of the silhouette.

How to choose a collar type according to your figure

Styles of women's clothing must be selected according to the figure; style lessons in selecting advantageous clothing combinations from leading designers teach us how to correctly combine all the elements of a wardrobe:

  • You can wear a blouse with an apache collar under a skirt and trousers in a loose style; such a blouse will look great with jeans and shorts and is well suited for many summer styles;
  • What you shouldn’t do is hide such clothes under a jacket; it won’t look good in such a combination;
  • If a girl has wide hips, a waist and a small upper body, as well as small breasts, clothes with a wide collar are good for this type of figure;
  • The best option would be a coat with apache collars, which disguise small breasts and even out the proportions of the figure. Ideally, such a jacket with an apache collar has a fitted silhouette. The waist was emphasized with a belt, and the chest with an open large collar.

When choosing a clothing style, you should, first of all, be guided by the characteristics of your figure, choosing those stylizations that best suit your silhouette, help hide your figure’s flaws, and beautifully emphasize its advantages.
