What is this mysterious “IQ Test”?

All people are different. Therefore, it is not surprising when one person has a more developed level of intelligence compared to another. Each of us has a certain idea of our capabilities. But how to measure them accurately? In this case, in the majority developed countries In the world, it is the IQ test, expressed in points, that comes to the rescue.

Translated from English, the abbreviation IQ means “intelligence quotient.” This indicator is a quantitative assessment of the level of intelligence of an individual in comparison with the same indicator belonging to the average person of the same age as the test subject. IQ can be determined by passing the tests presented above, which (as experts point out) may not assess an individual’s existing knowledge, but they do determine his thinking abilities. Our IQ tests are free chances to find out how developed your intelligence is!

The structure of each IQ test is a list of questions, which are both simpler and more difficult. The subject is asked to cope with tasks related to determining the quality of spatial and logical thinking in a person. There are very different variations of questions. As practice shows, the higher the experience in passing these tests, the better the results. The Eysenck test is the most famous among such IQ tests.

Scientists note that half of people have an IQ in the range of 90-110 points, the rest are either below 90 or above 110 (about 25% each). According to American researchers, the average score of this test among graduates of higher education institutions educational institutions is 105 points. For excellent students it is 130-140. It is believed that working to improve mental abilities needed when IQ is below 70.

IN recent years IQ tests have gained incredible popularity among the entire population of the planet. They are used everywhere: when applying to universities and colleges, during job interviews, when passing driver's license exams, and so on. Russia also did not stand aside. The population of our country is entirely interested in knowing the level of their own intelligence, which is why many residents try to learn as much as possible about tests to determine intellectual abilities and are not averse to taking them. The big advantage of such intelligence tests is their accessibility. If you search the Internet for IQ tests, you will certainly find free ones. Moreover, not all of them will be correctly composed. The uniqueness of our site is that we give you the opportunity not just to take a free IQ test, but to try to pass a test compiled by an experienced specialist. That is, we have real IQ tests.

It is worth noting that the average IQ of the population of a particular country depends on the efficiency of the state machine and the level of gross domestic product. In addition, a study was conducted that found a relationship between the social intelligence factor and average results on the Unified State Exam (the foreign analogue of the SAT).

IQ tests: how they are constructed

There are other variations of questions. As practice shows, the more experience you have in passing these tests, the better the results. The most famous among such tasks is the Eysenck test. Good accuracy is demonstrated by tests bearing the names of their creators: D. Wexler, J. Raven, R. Amthauer and R. B. Cattell. At the same time, to date no one has yet introduced a single standard to which existing IQ tests would adhere.

All tests are divided into groups by age in order to give an accurate assessment of a person’s intellectual development, corresponding to his age. In other words, the results of IQ tests can be the same - for example, an 11-year-old child and a master's degree in mathematics. This is all because they are equally developed for their age. If we take the Eysenck test, the creator developed it to determine the level of intelligence in people over 18 years of age.

History of IQ and what influences it

Back in 1912, the German scientist Wilhelm Stern introduced the then unusual concept of “intelligence quotient” to the general public for the first time. While conducting his research, he turned his attention to the shortcomings inherent in one of the indicators of the Binet scales, namely mental age. To determine an accurate assessment of an individual's intelligence, Stern proposed dividing mental age indicators by real age (also called chronological), and taking the remainder of this operation.

The first appearance of the term IQ dates back to 1916, when it was used in the Stanford-Binet scale. But today (perhaps due to the greatly increased interest among the population in IQ indicators) there are several other scales, the validity of which has not been proven. Therefore, it is now quite difficult to compare the results shown by different tests. Therefore, psychologists often recommend turning to classical tests to determine the IQ. These are the tests we have selected for you.

Reasons affecting IQ

Naturally, one of the main reasons that has a serious impact on IQ levels is heredity. The main emphasis in the ongoing research on determining the relationship between these two indicators was on children. The results of these studies resulted in quite a wide range of readings: some scientists stated that less than half of IQ depends on existing genes; and others even cited data reporting almost one hundred percent dependence. The rest that could affect the results of IQ tests is environment and the situation, as well as all sorts of errors inherent in such measurements. That is, according to such studies, it turns out that the level of IQ largely depends on hereditary genes.

Another reason that influences IQ scores is individual genes (the brain activity of an ordinary person depends on approximately 17 thousand genes). Research shows that individual genes influence existing level IQ of the individual, but in reality such exposure does not have a strong effect. This dependence, revealed during the research, turned out to be at the level of statistical error.

On current moment Research began to look for differences in the genome between people with high and low IQ levels. If someone manages to figure out the genetic causes of “braininess,” then perhaps there will be a means to increase a person’s IQ level. States with such knowledge will quickly move forward in terms of economic and technological development.

The third reason that can affect IQ level is the environment. Of course, everything that is around a person (especially the family) influences his development. Research has identified many factors for this dependence. They included family income, the size of the house and its price, the developing relationships between all family members, and so on. This dependence is characterized by a coefficient equal to 0.25-0.35. But as a person grows older, this influence gradually decreases until it reaches zero around adulthood (these studies concerned only a full family with two parents and two children).

Improper nutrition can also affect the level of IQ development. Thus, recent studies have shown that eating fish products by a pregnant woman has a beneficial effect on the intellectual development of her unborn child.
Another study, involving about 13 thousand people, determined that breastfeeding also has a positive effect on the infant's intelligence. However, it should be noted that immediately after publication this study he was criticized. The reasons for the scientific “attack” were an incorrect analysis of the data obtained and a complete disregard for existing theories.

Differences in IQ across human groups

According to most experts, on average, there is no significant difference in the level of intelligence development between men and women belonging to the same age group. But it is among the male population that the most striking variation in this indicator is observed: that is, there are a lot of men with high level intelligence and also many who have a fairly low IQ. In addition, this indicator is expressed slightly differently in women and men. This is especially noticeable after five years. At this age, boys begin to show superiority over the fair half of humanity in terms of spatial intelligence and manipulation. Girls demonstrate better verbal functions.
Men are also gaining leadership in the area of mathematical abilities. One of the American researchers came to the conclusion that for every 13 men who have excellent abilities in mathematical operations, there is only one woman equal to them.

Racial differences

Numerous studies have been conducted to identify differences in the average IQ level among residents of the United States of America and have led to the following conclusion: among representatives of the African-American population this indicator was 85 points, among Latinos - 89, whites - 103, Asians - 106, and Jewish - 113.

At the same time intermediate level IQ, when looking at test data from half a century ago, shows some changes. So, today the IQ of the Negroid race in 1995 corresponds to the IQ of white people who lived in 1945. Therefore, it seems impossible to “blame” everything on the genetic characteristics of people.

One should not ignore such an important factor as the influence of society on the development of intelligence. This is especially noticeable in orphans. For example, in the same USA, the IQ level of children raised by representatives of the white race is approximately 10% higher than that of those who lived in a black family. And in the UK, this indicator varies even more interestingly: in boarding schools, black children have a higher IQ than their white peers.

During the research, scientists discovered a pattern consisting in the existing difference in the average IQ level between residents different countries. According to certain data, this indicator is influenced by the current size of GDP, practical use democratic foundations, crime and birth rates, the percentage ratio between believers and atheists. In developing countries, in addition to the above reasons, the average IQ level and poor quality nutrition, coupled with numerous diseases, also have an impact. In this regard, we ask you to familiarize yourself with this interesting map...

Relationship between health, age and IQ

A properly composed diet, especially in the early stages of human development, has a beneficial effect on the development of intellectual abilities. An example is the factor of iodine deficiency in the body: if it is present, the average IQ score decreases by 12 points. Those who have a fairly high IQ live longer and get sick less often.

IQ acts as a measure of a person's intellectual abilities, which reach maximum values at 26 years of age. Then they gradually decrease.

The IQ of an adult, to a greater extent than that of children, is determined by genetic inheritance. For the latter, this indicator is influenced by the environment. Due to certain life characteristics, some children are initially ahead of their peers in terms of intelligence, but over time their indicators level out.
School achievements

Representatives of the American Psychological Association noted that children whose results on IQ tests are high are much better at mastering the material presented in school than those who receive lower scores. This correlation reaches 0.5. Tests to determine the level of intelligence make it possible to pre-select naturally gifted children in order to teach them in a separate, accelerated program.

Revenues, scrime and IQ

Some of the research devoted to the influence of IQ level on a person’s life shows that higher intelligence increases the productivity of an individual and, accordingly, his income increases. Moreover, this indicator does not depend on a person’s social environment, including his family.

The American Psychological Association noted in one of its reports that intelligence level has little to do with a person’s propensity to commit crimes. The correlation in this case is only 0.2. It is important to note here that cause-and-effect relationships are indirect. That is, poor performance at school is not always explained by a low IQ level, but it often influences the possibility of a person becoming criminal.

Arthur Jensen provides information according to which largest percentage crimes occur among people with an IQ ranging from 70 to 90 points.

Scientific achievements, etc.ore activity

According to some studies, it can be concluded that success in scientific field activities depend to a greater extent on character traits such as determination and innovative thinking. But Dr. Eysenck cites other data according to which the level of intelligence of successful scientists is lower than that of their colleagues who received Nobel Prize. The average IQ test scores were 166. At the same time, some scientists demonstrated the highest possible level of 177 points. Spatial IQ was, according to the scientist, 137 points, although at a younger age it should have been higher. And the average mathematical IQ is 154.

Two scientists, Frank Schmidt and John Hunter, came to the conclusion that, given an equal amount of experience, the person with the higher IQ level will be more productive. As researchers note, the development of intelligence affects all types of human activity, but its level differs depending on the chosen field of activity. From this we can conclude that work that requires long-term brain work will not be available to those with a low IQ. And at the same time, the size of this coefficient will not seriously affect activities related to physical activity.

IN lately Various tests for determining intelligence quotient or IQ tests (IQ - intelligence quotient, read IQ) are becoming increasingly popular. They are carried out not only for entertainment. Some employers and educational institutions have included such tests in their admissions programs. What does this give and how to check your IQ (IQ)?

WHAT IS INTELLIGENCE

The abbreviation IQ denotes a quantitative assessment of the intellectual abilities of the person being tested in relation to the level mental development the average person of this age.

This abbreviation was first used at the beginning of the last century in the Stanford-Binet scale.

What is intelligence? Translated from Latin, intellectus means understanding, perception, sensation. This is the quality of our psyche that helps us adapt to new circumstances. Thanks to mental abilities, we can adapt faster, learn new things and apply knowledge in practice. Mental abilities are divided into innate and acquired.

Innate abilities play a big role in our lives. They are formed under the influence of genetics and begin to appear in childhood. Primary intuition is not related to mental functions and does not depend on our skills. It is believed that it is formed on the basis of the architectonics of the cerebral cortex. Acquired abilities are what we will achieve throughout our lives.

IQ is influenced by:

  • individual genes;
  • heredity;
  • external factors.

If everything is clear with the first two points, then the last point raises many questions.

Scientists have found that mental abilities can be influenced by: environment, nutrition, race and even country of residence. The highest rate is among Jews, followed by Asians, and then only people of the white race. Therefore, some are considered smarter simply by nature, because they were born “in the right place.”

Nutrition is also a very important component of the full and comprehensive development of an individual. It has been proven that a lack of iodine in a teenager’s body reduces intelligence by almost 10 points, but breastfeeding helps increase the score by 7 points. True, disputes on this issue still do not subside, since every scientist has his own opinion.

But don’t despair, there are exceptions to every rule.

It’s not difficult to check your IQ, the main thing is to know how.

HOW TO FIND OUT YOUR IQUALITY

You can test your mental abilities on your own or under the supervision of a psychologist. For this purpose, various tests have long been developed that allow you to identify the hidden resources of your mind and show everyone what you are capable of. Each of them has tasks of varying complexity.

They are usually arranged in ascending order, from easy to more complex. Points are awarded for each answer option. The maximum number is 180. Tests are divided by age, each category has its own scale of results.

The most common questionnaire is the Eysenck test. In addition, the methods of R. Amthauer, D. Wexler, R. Cattell and J. Raven are often used. They are more accurate. You don't have to choose just one option. To test your mental abilities, you can take all the proposed tests. The average result will most objectively show your IQ.

Tests can be found on the Internet and taken online. However, before starting the inspection, it is better to carefully read the conditions. Some resources offer to take the test for free, but to get results you will have to pay money. There are options without paying, you just need to search online.

Unfortunately, all these developments will not show 100% reliable results. A lot during the test depends on the level of reading and outlook of the person being tested. Negative influence the quality of the test can be affected by poor health or fatigue, so taking the test twice, you can get completely different results.

When hiring, the employer first of all pays attention to your professional skills. However, in parallel with this, he can offer you an IQ test, which you will need to pass in a clearly defined time. Thus, the personnel department of the enterprise will draw a conclusion about your attentiveness, speed and quality of thinking, general outlook and much more.

How to find out your IQ for free?

If you feel that your logic is well developed, you cope well with difficult mental work, you would probably be interested in knowing the level of your intelligence. IQ tests are perhaps the only way to measure the quality of your brain.

Such tests are often used by employers when hiring to determine the level of thinking of a candidate or when testing for professional aptitude.

It should be noted that such tasks are not based on a general outlook. The tasks in them are designed in such a way as to find out the logic of your thinking, the speed of decision-making, the ability of the brain to quickly read anagrams, determine the correspondence of objects to their characteristics, and much more.

If you want to take the test yourself, you can do this on numerous services on the Internet. However, please note that many sites require payment for determining IQ level, and some do this completely hidden, asking you to send an SMS or enter a phone number.

If you want to find out your level of intelligence for free, do not follow the lead of such services. Take advantage of those who do not require registration and provide the service free and no scams.

In this video, psychologist Petr Novoselov will conduct an interesting test of logic and level of mental development:

Service brainapps.ru

The site offers 15 questions with no time limit for answers. They contain tasks for selecting the necessary figure, number and letter series, as well as words - names of car brands, capitals, composers in the form of anagrams.

Some tasks are very simple, while others require quite a bit of effort.

The result is given immediately after completion of the test with a dry formulation of the level of intelligence. However, there are no more detailed transcripts. Immediately below the result there is a button to go to the daily workout. When you click on it, you are prompted to register on the site.

Service trainingmozga.com

Registration on the site is not required to complete the tasks. There are several to choose from various tests, while the difference between them is not indicated.

The standard time for answers is indicated and the countdown is in progress, but there is no time limit.

There are only 40 questions, after answering which you receive final points and the choice of whether you want to fit into the general statistics. At the same time, it is possible to look at statistics on the level of intelligence by country, name, age, and so on.

Service iq-testing.ru

30 not very difficult questions, time limited to half an hour. By clicking at random you can score a decent amount of points. The result is immediate, below is the transcript. By the way, a randomly scored score of 70 is average low level. In a broader definition, it is shown as a level at which people barely graduate from universities and can work, at most, as middle managers in small companies.

Service ru.iq-test.cc

Easy test. Thirty questions and a time counter that indicates how much time you have spent since the start of the test. Almost all tasks ask you to select the desired figure. At the end, the number of points scored without decoding, as well as an impressive article that you should not pay attention to the result, since many scientists consider it an imperfect indicator.

Service freeIQ.ru

Free service that gives you 30 questions of various nature and does not limit you in time.

You can click the “result” button before all answers have been provided. At the same time, somehow the level of intelligence is still calculated and displayed on the screen.

There is a function to view the correct answers to tasks, but in order to use it you need to remember how you personally answered a particular question.

One of the advantages is the ability to remember the number and code of your test in order to return to its analysis after a while.

Service rb.ru

The questions in the test are completely duplicates of the tvoiiq.ru service, but in a more convenient version. You only need to manually enter words that are both the ending of one word and the beginning of another. All other options can be selected.

The tasks are not very difficult and varied. At the end, the result and the scale of compliance of the performed professional functions number of points for the test.

A footnote at the bottom of the compliance scale states that the site's moderators cannot guarantee that this is actually true.

Service

Standard questions to determine the required figure in a row and number sequence. There are no anagrams or tasks with letter series.

There are 20 questions in total, excluding answer time. Upon completion, a presentable picture appears with a certificate indicating the test scores. However, there is no decoding of the result.

The numbers of tasks in which errors were made are highlighted in red. Moreover, when you go to them, you can change your answer option and thus bring your percentage to the ideal.

This video will present 6 problems, the solution of which will help you find out how much your brain is developed:

The test is positioned as short. No time limit. Contains 20 different questions. There are anagrams, identifying suitable shapes, number and letter series.

At the end, the answer is presented as a number of points. What does it mean this result and what kind of people to classify oneself as is not entirely clear.

Service

There is nothing else on the page other than questions and answer options. There are no distractions. 40 different interesting questions. Countdown time counter that starts at 60 minutes.

After passing the test, the site asks you to enter only your country of residence and age. After which it gives a total in points and a comment about your level of intelligence relative to your age.

Service kit-jobs.ru

A questionnaire unlike any other. Contains 20 questions from the category of children's puzzles, such as whether the palm rhinoceros is really an insect or “seven brothers have one sister, how many children are there in the family.” There are no logic or correlation tasks.

After completing the questionnaire, the sum of points for the passed test and praise for the achieved result are given. And also a legend that you are an erudite person.

Service

Not a very user-friendly interface and not a modern design. Answers must be entered manually using words or the numeric keypad. There are 40 questions in total, no time limit. Moreover, after answering each of them, the page is reloaded, first with question numbers, advertising and the new task itself.

As a result, you click the “result” button and get a digital result and a dry conclusion. The numbers of incorrectly completed tasks appear in red in the table, but when you click on active erroneous links, there is no correct answer.

That is, if you did everything consciously, you are unlikely to understand what your mistake was.

How to pass an IQ test correctly?

The level of brain activity and the possibility of increasing it have been studied for many centuries. However, so far advances in science have been minimal. It has been proven that infancy has a direct influence on brain development. But the relationship with genetics remains questionable.

However, what is absolutely certain is that the brain can be trained. And this is exactly the way to develop it and achieve good results in passing tests to measure iq.

The fact is that tasks in tests necessarily contain logic. Look carefully at the task, calculate the logical elements included in the task and now you will know what to start from in tasks of the same kind.

It is better to take the test in the morning, after getting enough sleep, and certainly after breakfast.

Thus, the only way to measure the level of your innate or acquired intelligence is an IQ test, which you can take in open sources on the Internet or when applying for a job with a responsible employer. The results of such a test do not make you worse or better than others. They indicate how your brain works and what tasks it can handle.

Video: how to find out your IQ using pictures

In this video, psychologist Andrei Likhachev will show 10 interesting photos, through the perception of which you can understand the level of your intelligence:

Attempts to express human intelligence in numerical terms have been known since the beginning of the twentieth century. In 1912, the German scientist William Stern first introduced the concept of intelligence quotient. This idea turned out to be very timely and already in 1916 it was used in an earlier system of intellectual calculus, known as the Stanford-Binet scale.

These days, IQ tests have become very popular and relevant. The abbreviation IQ itself is correctly deciphered as intelligence quotient, which translated from English means intelligence quotient. Accordingly, an IQ test determines a person’s intelligence level based on the obtained coefficient, the calculation of which also takes into account his age. The most popular is the Hans Jurgen Eysenck test.

The mathematical formula for IQ is a fraction multiplied by 100, the numerator of which is a person’s mental age, and the denominator is his chronological age. Currently, the fourth edition of the IQ measurement scale is used in psychodiagnostics.

Today, many companies engage in IQ testing, checking employees applying for a particular vacancy. Pass intelligence test even children can. Thus, an IQ test helps determine the ability of people tested to perform certain tasks.

An interesting fact is that this test is not some kind of erudition exam and does not require special knowledge, but rather reveals the ingenuity and intelligence of a person, which is what intelligence essentially is.

The proposed test consists of forty questions that must be answered in exactly thirty minutes. There are no pauses, timeouts or breaks. Since the IQ test is an important indicator, the conditions for its purity are exactly the same for all subjects. At the same time, more inattentive people will have less chance of high intelligence scores, which, in fact, is quite fair.

When taking a test, it is best to skip questions that cannot be resolved immediately. It is not difficult to calculate that on average the program allocates 45 seconds for each question. This time is, of course, arbitrary, since rarely does anyone manage to solve all forty problems correctly, however, if you linger too long on difficult questions, then the chance of not having time to reach the tasks that could potentially be solved by the test subject increases.

It happens that more simple task takes longer to solve than a complex problem. This may occur as a result individual characteristics of the person undergoing testing, and his IQ will subsequently be reflected. Skipping difficult problems, the test taker returns to them again, but having already answered all the “easy” questions. This approach is more rational and therefore effective.

This is interesting! It turns out that intelligence tests and mental ability tests were first developed... in the 7th century by Chinese employers. At that time, based on the results, officials were divided into three classes: public service officer (one of a hundred competitors), a mandarin (one of a hundred public service officials) and, finally, an inspector (one of a hundred mandarins).

Attention! Before taking the test, it is recommended to do an intellectual warm-up: count out loud from one hundred to one, backwards, or, as quickly as possible, remember and name 20 exotic male and female names. After such a warm-up, you will feel that you are ready to solve more complex problems.

Instructions

If you decide to test your IQ yourself, be mindful when choosing an IQ test. Numerous online resources offer a wide selection of different IQ tests, but most of them do not have a reliable methodology and show inflated results in order to attract the target audience to the resource. Choose tests from well-known authors whose reliability has been statistically proven. Among them are tests for determining IQ by Eysenck, Wechsler, Amthauer, Cattell and Raven's progressive matrices.

IQ tests developed by Hans Eysenck are the most popular among psychodiagnosticians. Eysenck created eight versions of IQ tests for different target groups in the age range of 18-50 years. The first five Eysenck tests are called general and allow you to find out general level intellectual development. Eysenck's three specialized IQ tests are aimed at deeper testing and assessment of mathematical, verbal and visual-spatial abilities.

If you are under 18 years old, you can test your IQ using David Wechsler's WISC test for the appropriate age group. Wechsler tests assess intelligence quotient using eleven subtests, distributed on two scales - verbal and nonverbal. In the West, the Wechsler method has become widespread due to its reliability. Wexler IQ tests are routinely taken by school and higher education students, job applicants and children preschool age. The Wechsler test for the age group from 16 to 64 years old, called the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS), has also been adapted into Russian.

In the personnel departments of large corporations, when assessing personnel, they use the IST - intelligence structure test. This is a multilevel IQ test developed by German psychologist Rudolf Amthauer. IST allows you to create a detailed profile of the test subject's intelligence according to several complementary criteria. If you are over 18 years old and decide to test your IQ not just out of curiosity, choose IST, it guarantees high validity of the results.

IQ test statistics are based on normal distribution. The average value of the coefficient is taken to be 100. This indicator is considered the norm, the standard. A preschool child and an academy graduate may have an IQ of 100. This means that their mental age matches the chronological age of a particular age group. IQ scores greater than 100 indicate that your cognitive abilities are above the average for your age group. Values above 120 on the Eysenck and Wechsler scales are considered an indicator of giftedness, above 140 - genius.
