Childhood and youth

Born in large family carpenter worker. My father fought on the fronts of the First World War and civil war, then switched to economic work, was the director of the forestry enterprise, died in 1941. Stanislav was the last, sixth child in the family. By the time of his birth, two older children had died during epidemics. Since 1929, the family lived in the city of Kineshma, Ivanovo Industrial Region, at the father’s new place of work. During the Great Patriotic War To help his family, he worked as a laborer at the Volga pier. Since 1946 - worker at a woodworking plant in Kineshma.

Start military service

In 1948 he was drafted into Soviet Army. He graduated from the Shuya Infantry School in 1951. Since 1951, he commanded a separate reconnaissance platoon of a mechanized regiment in the city of Kirov as part of the Gorky Military District (in 1953, due to the disbandment of the district, the unit was transferred to the Ural Military District). In 1954 he graduated from the Joint Advanced Courses for Intelligence Officers in Leningrad. Since 1956, he commanded a reconnaissance company of a mechanized regiment in Orenburg region, since 1957 - head of reconnaissance of a mechanized regiment there. Member of the CPSU since 1957.

Graduated in 1961 Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze. Then he served in the Turkmen SSR for six years: he commanded a motorized rifle battalion, from 1963 he was chief of staff, and in 1966-1967 - commander motorized rifle regiment Turkestan Military District.

In senior positions

In 1969 he graduated from the Military Academy General Staff. After its completion, he commanded a motorized rifle division of the Odessa Military District in Crimea for five months, and in the summer of the same year he was transferred to the same position in the Group Soviet troops in Germany. Since 1973 - Chief of Staff - Deputy Commander of the Northern Group of Forces in Poland. Since 1975 - commander of the 7th guards army in the Transcaucasian Military District. In 1976 he graduated from the Higher Academic Courses at the Military Academy of the General Staff. Since August 1977 - Chief of Staff - First Deputy Commander of the Kyiv Military District.

In senior command positions

Since August 1979 - Commander of the North Caucasus Military District. Since August 1980 - Commander of the Baltic Military District. Since January 1984 - Commander of the Trans-Baikal Military District. Since December 1986 - First Deputy Commander-in-Chief Ground forces USSR. Since June 1988 - Commander-in-Chief of the Western Direction.

After the disbandment of the directions in 1992 and the subsequent six-month stay “out of state,” in February 1993, by Decree of the President of Russia and by order of the Minister of Defense, he was dismissed from the Armed Forces.

Retired

Since the end of November 1993, adviser (civilian specialist) at the Main Military Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense Russian Federation. After the creation of the Inspector General Service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in 2008, he was the Inspector General of the Service until last days life.

Lived in Moscow. Author of the memoirs “In Distant Garrisons”, containing a lot of interesting information about the activities and relationships in the highest army circles of the USSR. Member of the Council of Nationalities Supreme Council USSR 11th convocation (1984-1989) from the Buryat Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. People's Deputy of the USSR in 1989-1991. Member of the Central Audit Commission of the CPSU in 1981-1990.
